summer shopping

With our unusual warm temps here I've been out doing a little summer shopping and making a list.  I found these:

I'm all about casual in the summer, easy and cool.  Since breaking my foot I've added comfortable to that list.  If it doesn't give support, there's no point.  I tried these on and loved how they felt.  I even walked around the entire store with them on.  I liked them so much I took a picture to remind me.

These are just stinkin' cute and would work with alot of my summer wardrobe.  Ha, listen to me, I talk like I'm all stylish.  Again they are casual with a dressy flair (Ha, there I go again!).  I didn't walk around the store with these on since I get some looks from the other pair but they felt good, had more of a base on them then some I've seen.  The price, OUCH!  I have a coupon but not sure I want them bad enough.  I have learned and am more picky about what I put on my feet. I'm not sure if I'm going to commit to these and then in the long run they kill my feet.

Funny note - I was out with Jonica at a store that our husbands do not want to step foot in.  It is an overwhelming store with lots of pretties that our men would rather go sit in the car and wait with the kids than go in.  We had fun looking at ALL the choices.  They have shoes.  I picked a pair up of what my girls would call "rainbow shoes" because they are that colorful.  They were wedges.  Tall wedges.  I put one on.  I couldn't even balance myself in the dumb things and I could have easily twisted my ankle.  Luckily I could laugh about it, Jonica could too.  It was a sign.  As cute as they were and knowing how much my girls would love them - it was a no go.  Just isn't meant to be.

So I stay with flat, comfortable, casual flats.  It is what it is - even in the summer.

a portion of my unplanned day at home

Today was an unexpected day at home.  Sarah is on the mend but she has been her bouncy, normal self.  The weather is great and she knew it BUT I had to find a way to keep her occupied and her mind off of being outside, after all part of her issues are allergy related.  Spring time is hard on my chicka.  We watched some TV, read many books, colored and played some computer games.  A favorite of hers is www.abcya.com.  They play this in her class so she knows it well.  Today we moved up and played some of the first grade games which she found more challenging and loved.

Yes it's 77 degrees outside and I'm wearing my winter house shoes/boots.  I can't go without support on my feet anymore, the once broken foot hurts if I walk barefooted for any period of time.  I'm not sure what I will do this summer when it is 90 degrees.

I did some school work that normally I would do while there. I can't help myself, I'm one of those people who has to be prepared a week in advance. Teaching is something you can't leave at work, it follows you home. I have learned this. Art still has yet to figure it out :).

Art brought these home from work yesterday. He purchased from a co-worker. They have been staring at me ALL day. I've been good though, haven't touched one. They are sitting out and need to be taken to our deep freezer downstairs. They are too much of a temptation to me, the girls and Art.

I've also done a load of laundry, put it plus two others away.  I've swept the floors, watered plants, loaded the dishwasher, unloaded it too.  Started dinner (somewhat), it's defrosting.  Played with Truman.  Blogged ;D.  Gone through the pile of school projects/papers that have come in the last few weeks, sorted through them, pitched and placed what I want to keep in the girls memories boxes.  I put that chore off all the time and am happy I got to it today.  I dislike piles on my desk very much!  Now there is one left, the Art pile.  It's always the last to go :).

Overall a good day, finding out what's going on with Sarah's crazy fever is a blessing.  We're back to school tomorrow if she remains fever free through tomorrow morning.  It's all good, she's ready to be back.  I'm ready too.

best of both worlds

He's got the best of both worlds today.

I'm at home with a sick girl on what could be one of the most beautiful days this winter.  Current temp is 74, sunny, birds singing, just gorgeous.

On days like this at home, Truman keeps me hopping.  He can't seem to make up his mind on going out or staying in.  I gave up and opted for this.  He's happy, so am I.

Sarah is home today.  We saw doctor this morning since we haven't been able to figure out what the sporadic fever was about.  Double ear infection = fever, congestion/cough  = allergies.  We have  meds and are on them.  She is fine, bouncing off the walls, telling me she's bored :).  So I sent her out on the deck with one of Truman's favorite toys, they are playing right now.  He's happy, she's giggling and happy as well. :)

art's pancakes

We got this recipe from friends of ours (the Coynes) a long time ago.  While it is great as is, Art played around with it adding a pinch of this here, extra of that there, making it his own and fit to our needs.  I have to say they ROCK!  Sarah loves them.  Grace loves them. I, well you already know.  He is officially the pancake maker in our house.  He triples the batch then freezes them for Pancake Wednesdays.  My girls get excited for Wednesday morning for this reason and it helps get them out of bed.  What a great hubby he is and pancake maker man!

Here's his recipe:

1 cup buttermilk (we don't keep buttermilk on hand all the time so he uses gluten free yogurt or lactose milk)
1 egg
1 T sugar
2 T oil (we usually use applesauce instead)
1 C flour (Art uses a mixture of gf flour and gf oatmeal that he has ground up in the food processor to make oat flour)  **Personally I love the oat flour, it gives them a heartiness I like
1 t baking powder
1/2 t baking soda
1/2 t salt

**Additional things he adds to power them up are flax meal and sweet potato puree.  He also adds vanilla extract for a warm flavor.  Adding fruit like blueberries, strawberries or bananas are a hit but they don't freeze as well.

Happy Pancake Wednesday friends!

to pinterest or to not pinterest, that is the ??

I've held off getting involved with pinterest.  In my mind it was another thing to pull on me.  But I caved and glad I did.  Can you say S - U - C - K - E - R!!!

  •  It is a great source to "pin" things that are of interest to me like crafts/ideas for school.
  •  I love looking at the recipes too.  Will I ever make them?  Not sure but it's nice to have them in one spot.
  • Decor ideas, I love to dream and make changes around our home.  I can envision them even more now with Pinterest.
  • Crafts/DIY, I'm all about crafting if I can find the time :).
  •  Fashion, well I've never felt fashionable, maybe this will  help in that area.

I have been sucked in, yes indeed and I will reap the benefits hopefully soon and follow through on one of the boards I pin too.

dead

It's official, it's dead.  We're down appliance #2 for 2012.  This year is not starting off well :).

sick, but not really, huh?!?

I've missed two days this week at school. Sarah has missed three.  I've missed Dr. Seuss week which is one of my favorites to share with the kids. She's missed the fun activities celebrating Seuss at her school too.

I didn't get to wear this...

Does this girl look sick to you?
That's where the "huh?" comes in to place.  Sarah has had a fever for 3 days now, anywhere from 99.1 to 101.1.  There have been no other symptoms.  No tummy, no digestive issues.  No sore throat.  No congestion or runny nose.  No rash.  N-O-T-H-I-N-G!  She is her bubbly self, ready to play and be active.  She's also eating just fine.
Frustrating.  I called her pediatricians office to see if there was something going around that she fit into. Again N-O-T-H-I-N-G!  So we are hanging out at home, doing some cuddling on the couch, watching cartoons, reading.

While seeing her sick is frustrating, especially since there is no explanation, I am glad for our cuddle time.  One day the cuddles will end and it will more than likely devastate me.  I will enjoy the "frustration" as long as I can :).
