feeling more and more like a single mom

Lately life has been a rush.  Alot of moving and little staying put. I'm back into school myself which automatically means my head is full and constantly going.  I'm beginning to feel like a single mom, not just because of Art's schedule, but also my own and the girls.  It goes something like this:
  • Art has been putting in long hours at work, building and fixing the broken.  Yes it is job security and for a long time now I've said very little about the missed dinners/time with the family.  I did say something tonight, I think I stressed him out more than anything.  Poor guy, it wasn't my intention but I know he feels the same way, we miss him and vice versa.
  • Church commitments have pulled him away too.  It's either been a meeting, media or someones laptop.  While these are his talents and I'm glad he is serving- again, we miss him.
  • Three of our weeknights are now spent out and about making me, the chauffeur just plain tired.  We've just begun and I'm ready for summer again :-).  Tonight we dashed off with dinner in hand, I hate doing that.  I like to cook, I like to stay put, I like to eat with my family, viewing them in front of me, not in my rear view mirror.  When Art is home, we're not.  This is crazy stuff.
  • Homework, gymnastics, going gluten free, choir, violin lessons, lunches, memory work, laundry, general cleaning, Truman, school pictures, volunteering at ILS, daily preschool planning, spending my last conscious moment with Art each night before drifting off to sleep, budgeting.... If it weren't for my brief "ME" moments on Friday morning with a friend I'd probably be bonkers by now.  I live for Fridays :).
I'm not single.  I am in a loving partnership :).  It's just easy to get down instead of raising myself up.   I pray. It always helps and at times, if needed, a few tears between me and the big guy makes the world look super sweet again.  What would I do without that communication with him?  How awful would my life seem without him in the picture to raise me up again?  I don't even want to think on it.

Thank you Lord for the daily doses of "Up."  You know my needs.  You know my hearts desire.  You know my hubby's heart. You bless my family.  You are always thinking of me.

eight is great!

Grace turned 8 today.  This weekend we had her birthday party with 11 friends from school.  The party theme was "Fashionista!"  We had a fashion show complete with a silver fringe curtain and pink lit runway.  WOW was it fun, we all had a great time.  Art was outnumbered but enjoyed getting to know Grace's friends while capturing some moments.  Enjoy!

violin lessons

Grace started violin lessons last week.  She was excited but also took things very seriously {that's my Grace}.  Her teacher, Aly is SUPER talented and great with kids so it was a no brainer :).  Aly plays in the band at our church and we always enjoy listening to her.

She learned how to hold her violin.

She learned how to hold the bow and play {one note}.

She's also learning to read music.

I'm looking forward to see her growth in this.

evelyn and going gluten free

Last weekend Sarah and I headed to my parents home to go and see who they affectionately call - the voodoo doctor.  Her name is Evelyn and instead of voodoo doctor, I choose to call her holistic angel :).

A long time ago, between baby #1 and baby #2 I met Evelyn.  My parents were insistent I meet with her so I did.  I went in skeptical.  Holistic?  How would she know what was going on with me.  Before I could speak about my "issues," she had my right shoe off and hooked me up to a biomerdian machine.  You see it's a machine that sends a small electrical current through pressure points in your right hand and foot, through your body and the results end up on the computer.  It's painless, super easy and at times tickled - she was working on my feet after all!  It lasted 20 minutes and she printed up this report that told me what my health problems were and you know what, it was RIGHT!  It had me pegged.  I remember sitting there in amazement thinking my parents must have told her my symptoms but they didn't.  I started to believe in holistic care.  She gave me some supplements, ideas to help me to avoid surgery.  I went home with a sense of renewal and hope.  I did what she said, no surgery required and healing took place.  AMAZING!  Why did I doubt my parents?  Silly me.

I've been having health problems lately.  Enough to seek medical help, have tests done with no answers.  I even went as far to schedule an endoscopy and colonoscopy.  Evelyn popped into my head yet again, I knew I had to give her a try.

We went.  We scored.  I cancelled the tests and am now on a new supplement which is helping my body break down protein and I'm detoxing my body.  I will be on these for another month until I visit Evelyn again.  It's been a week and I do feel better, I have seen improvement.  Something had to be done, especially before school started.  My hope with each day is healing.

I took Sarah with me on this 4-1/2 hour road trip to see Evelyn for a reason.  For awhile now she's been having tummy issues, restless sleep and diarrhea.  We knew she was allergic to tree nuts, this was not causing her issues.  We suspected an allergy to milk and switched her to Lactaid milk.  She loves milk, so to give her this was our compromise.

She sat quietly like a champ taking the 20 minute test with Evelyn.  On these tests different areas/systems of your body are rated - green is balanced, yellow is weakened and red is stressed.  Sarah's report came out ALL RED!  My jaw dropped, my Dad's eyes got big!  I was looking at the mother of the century title!  Evelyn's words were, "I'm glad you brought her in."   It felt like I had hit a brick wall.  She was diagnosed with a similar issue as mine - the body not breaking down proteins, so she was put on a similar supplement as me.  It confirmed she was allergic to milk, vinegar, fossil fuel fumes and the kicker.... gluten!  The dreaded gluten.  I knew what this meant because my medical doctor had thrown it out to me as being a possibility for my issues.  I had read some material on it, so had Art.  This was big and also confusing.

Confusing in the sense that what you read on the label can be deceiving.  It has to say gluten free to be gluten free even if you see no wheat products in the ingredients.  It has been a whirlwind, lots of time looking at labels, googling certain foods and manufacturers.  Feeling deflated from what I was learning.  Having to try and help Sarah understand why she couldn't have the same treats as her sister anymore - heartbreaking!  We're still working on it!  We've been to Dierbergs, Whole Foods, Trader Joes etc....  Searching for that symbol.  The hardest thing to find are things she loves like goldfish type crackers or cookies like oreos.  Very frustrating.  After talking with friends about it we heard about Andrea's Gluten Free in Chesterfield.  I went there yesterday.  I was in gluten free heaven and as the woman at the counter walked me all through it I felt a sense of relief.  Sarah could have her cake and eat it too!  I ended up walking out with $100 in products including pancake mix and gluten free flour to bake on my own.  Big {happy} sigh!  I got so excited I texted Art, he sent me back a :).

We still have alot to learn and figure out.  Evelyn thinks that with time and in stabilizing her body Sarah could take in little amounts of gluten.  In reading I've noticed that people who have this disease can be extremely allergic, mildly or somewhere in the middle.  My thought is she is in the middle to mild but we are going to have to test it out.

For now we follow Evelyn's plan for Sarah and myself in hopes to stabilize our systems and return to her to see all green on the report.  Prayers our way would be appreciated.  God is good, we know now what to do and have a plan.

Thank you for angels such as Evelyn and opening my eyes to the reality of holistic healing.  It has it's place in the world but sadly is dismissed.  I am a believer. Thanks Mom and Dad for pushing me to believe.

homework

We've had alot of homework this week between the two of them.  Math, Sentence Structure, Word Study, Spanish, Science and a few fun things thrown in there.

Grace made a timeline of her life, got an A+.  :)

Sarah has had homework every night, who knew Kindergarten could be so demanding :).  Actually it's pretty easy and most of all FUN.  She loves doing it alongside her sister.  Tonight we read a book chosen by her and then she drew her favorite part in the book and wrote out the title.

Love seeing my girls creativity and being a part of their academics.
